When I first started running long distances, I bought the cheapest shoes and just went out and ran.
I ran my first marathon without the benefit of the information superhighway aka the world wide web. No info, no proper training, no guidance. It was a wonder that I finished it at all.
But sometimes too much information is bad.
When I went back to running again this year, I did it like before: went to Big 5 and bought a cheap pair of Asics.
Then I started to read about running shoes on the Web and guess what.
I decided that that pair of Asics was not good enough, that I was probably flat footed (do you notice how many over-pronation articles there are?), and that I was doing everything wrong and would hurt myself.
Three pairs of expensive supportive running shoes and a half marathon later, I finally realized that I am an under-pronator and that the best shoes are cushion shoes.
The wear on my Adidas Supernova is a proof of that: all the wear is on the outer rim of the shoe. And being bowlegged is one of the reasons for the under-pronation.
Lesson: get off that web browser and go visit a store that specializes in equipping runners.
