Sparc Dummies Notes

Chuck Maxa says...

"There is a reason for this on the sun4m architecture (ie. SPARC 4,5,20),
there is a bug with SUN's choice of SCSI controller on these machines,
where the setting for SCSI 0 and SCSI 3 was switched around. The
engineers decided to work around the problem instead of fixing it. They
later fixed it as on Ultra class machines (sun4u), SCSI id 0 is set to
be the default boot drive.

Now with the advent of the SUN Blade 1000, the default drive is on a
Fiber controller, which is controller 1, (controller 0 is the internal
SCSI controller) and the default boot device is c1t1d0s0. of course,
anyone can tell you, fiber controllers can be a real pain in the (insert

Rich Teer says...

"1) It's SPARC, not Sparc. SPARC is an acronym for
Scalable Processor ARChitecture.
2) Sun's don't have a BIOS - that's a PeeCee thing!
Sun's use the OBP - Open Boot PROM."
